Course Descriptions

Parents, please be safe and resist the natural impulse to place your child in a ‘higher” group.   If your child is ‘on the fence’ between levels, or if you are unsure of your child’s water competency, please place your child in the lower level.   This wise approach will not hinder your child’s progress, or opportunity to progress through the MSS levels, as our small groups allow for individual attention.   Not honoring this philosophy can be traumatic to your child and disruptive to the class. Adjustments can be made by moving a child up a level.   It is esteem building to be moved up verses down a level and we like to have positive outcomes!

WATERBABIES (Ages 6 months to 3 years)

This class is designed for a parent and their child.

At this young age it is a great opportunity to introduce your baby to the joy and fun of the water. Through exploration and age appropriate games, your child will learn about buoyancy and beginning breath control. Each activity is geared toward specific learning processes.   We use interaction with others in an enjoyable learning atmosphere that utilizes play, happy songs, creative expressions, self-discovery and independent thinking to achieve the goals of the lesson.
This fun, structured class facilitates the learning process through movement, sound, visual and tactile stimulation.

AQUATOTS (Ages 16 months to 3 years)

This class is designed for a parent and their child.

Through happy songs and fun games, the AQUATOT learns socialization skills, water safety, gross motor skills, peer motivation and self-esteem.   The student begins exploring breath control, buoyancy and balance.   Skills are learned and practiced through the use of rhythm, lyrics and repetition.

** Please note: All swimmers under the age of 3 are required to wear a swim diaper.

  • This is a mastery class, can be repeated several times to refine each stroke
  • Introduction to a few new strokes
  • Creating more efficiency in   treading water, scissor kick, sidestroke, deep underwater swimming and timed endurance swims
  • Refining all pieces of front crawl /freestyle, resting and racing breaststroke, back crawl, and elementary backstroke
  • Understanding what isolated drills work on and how to put together a workout or practice routine and what to concentrate on for their individual needs
  • Advanced safety skills are taught

Students are now proficient in 6 strokes; they are learning how to refine their body positioning to improve hydrodynamic states.   They build endurance and learn lifesaving skills.

Upon achieving this level your child will have skills for a lifetime. If interested in swim team information speak with one of our staff for details.

CREATE YOUR OWN SEMI PRIVATE OR PRIVATE LESSONS.

With Private or Semi-private lessons we can accommodate students at any level.   This works well for students that do not fall within our levels or that have little formal water experience or who are uneasy about going under water or does not yet have an independent glide.   We have found that school age children at the beginning level excel quickly when taking their first session with us in a private or semi-private class enabling them to catch up in ability with their peers.
